BULLDOGS AND CMHA-HAMILTON TEAM UP FOR “TALK TODAY” GAME

The Hamilton Bulldogs and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Hamilton Branch are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health during an upcoming Bulldogs home game.

The Bulldogs game on Feb.9, 2019 at 4 p.m. will feature:

  • A CMHA-run kiosk so fans can learn more about mental health, with a giveaway featuring an autographed Bulldogs stick
  • Videos featuring Bulldog players talking about the importance of mental health
  • Public address announcements about mental health

The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Hamilton Bulldogs and CMHA Hamilton to implement Talk Today. Talk Today provides mental health support to players and raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout communities across the Ontario Hockey League

A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention. Every team has received mental health training specific to suicide prevention. Each team is also now linked to a CMHA Mental Health Coach, who provides support and mental health resources to individuals in need.

“The Canadian Mental Health Association, Hamilton Branch is once again delighted to collaborate with the Hamilton Bulldogs for the Talk Today program.  In any given year, 1 in 5 people in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness.  In bringing awareness to the prevalence of mental health problems in our community, we hope to reduce the stigma so that people who are struggling will feel more comfortable seeking support, “said Sue Phipps, Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Hamilton.

“The Bulldogs are proud to again team up with CMHA to raise awareness about the importance of mental health,” said Bulldogs President and General Manager Steve Staios. “The training our team receives from this program is extremely important, and the players are advocates for promoting conversations about mental health and seeking support.”

Tickets for the game are still available, starting from $15 per person.
