BULLDOGS CAN’T SLOW DOWN THE COLTS
It was a battle of Eastern Conference division leaders at FirstOntario Centre Thursday as the Bulldogs hosted the Barrie Colts in the annual School Day Game attended by over 11,000 kids from the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board.
After a fast-paced start to the hockey game with chances at both ends, the Colts went on the power-play and took a 1-0 lead before the 5-minute mark. The Bulldogs rebounded just over a minute later as Isaac Nurse (12) took a nice pass from Ryan Moore to tie the game 1-1. However, Barrie took just 52-seconds to re-take the lead as the 1st period ended 2-1 for the visitors.
Hamilton’s lack of finish continued in the 2nd and despite out-shooting Barrie 13-8, it was the Colts who scored twice to widen their lead to 4-1.
The Bulldogs pressed to get back in the game in the 3rd period but were turned back time and time again by Barrie goaltender Leo Lazarev. Trying to cut into the deficit, Hamilton pulled its goalie with just under 6-minutes left, but it didn’t work as the Colts finished the scoring with an empty-net goal to make the final 5-1.
The Bulldogs out-shot the Colts 38-26.
Barrie goal scorers were Andrei Svechnikov (28, 29), Jaden Peca (10), Aaron Luchuk (40) and Dmitry Sokolov (31).
1) Dmitry Sokolov (BAR)
2) Leo Lazarev (BAR)
3) Andrei Svechnikov (BAR)
With the loss, Hamilton’s season record drops to 33-13-3-3.
The Bulldogs host the Kitchener Rangers at FirstOntario Centre on Saturday at 4 pm and then finish a four-game home-stand Sunday afternoon with a 2 pm matinee against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
