BULLDOGS COME FROM BEHIND TO GRAB A 6-5 WIN IN OSHAWA

The Hamilton Bulldogs used a 3rd period comeback Friday night in Oshawa to erase a 4-1 deficit as they went on to a 6-5 win over the Generals.

It was a feeling out process in the 1st period as both teams didn’t have much luck generating offense as scoring chances were at a premium. The Bulldogs got a break at 16:42 as Isaac Nurse (6) took advantage of perfect pass from Brandon Saigeon to make it 1-0. Not much time to celebrate the lead however, as the Generals tied it up 45-seconds later at 17:27 as the period ended 1-1.

Oshawa started the 2nd period on a power-play, but Bulldogs goalie Nick Donofrio stood tall in the Hamilton net. The Generals did take a 2-1 lead at 5:45 as Serron Noel (11) scored on a penalty-shot. The Bulldogs got into some penalty trouble and Oshawa took a 3-1 lead at 7:50 on a 5-on-3 power-play advantage. Oshawa kept the pressure on and took a 4-1 lead at 11:12. The Bulldogs got back on track as Benjamin Gleason (2) scored on the power-play at 13:25 to cut the deficit to 4-2. The power-play struck again for Hamilton at 14:39 and it was Gleason (3) again cutting the Generals lead to 4-3.

Oshawa was doing a good job sitting on their 1-goal lead for the first half of the 3rd period until the Bulldogs took over. Will Bitten (6) won a face-off and snapped one home to tie the game 4-4 at the 10-minute mark, Marina Studenic (7) scored at 14:23 to make it 5-4 Black and Gold and then Benjamin Gleason (4) completed his power-play hat-trick at 15:36 to make it 6-4. The Generals got one back with 5-seconds left, but it was too little too late.

Oshawa out-shot Hamilton 32-28.

Bulldogs goalie Nick Donofrio got the win and has not lost in regulation as his record is now 4-0-0-1.

3 Stars:

1)  Benjamin Gleason (HAM)

2)  Renars Krastenbergs (OSH)

3)  Will Bitten (HAM)

With the win, the Bulldogs season record is now 13-6-2-3 and they retain 1st place in both the East Division and Eastern Conference standings.

It’s right back at it Saturday night as the Bulldogs return home to host the Ottawa 67’s at FirstOntario Centre at 7 pm.
