The Hamilton Bulldogs went into the game Friday night in Kitchener without Robert Thomas (5-game suspension), Mackenzie Entwistle (upper body injury) and then lost Will Bitten with an injury, but still put in a gutsy effort in a 4-3 loss to the Rangers.
The Bulldogs came out of the gate with a lot of jump and got a couple of good scoring chances early, then a friendly bounce led to a Brandon Saigeon (28) goal. It took the Rangers over 6-minutes to get their first shot on goal and then late in the period they tied the game 1-1.
Kitchener took their first lead mid-way through the 2nd period only to see Hamilton tie the game 2-2 three minutes later as Brandon Saigeon (29) got his second goal of the game. The Bulldogs had a hard time staying out of the penalty box and the Rangers took advantage with a late power-play goal to take a 3-2 lead.
The Bulldogs kept the pressure on and out-shot the Rangers 14-4 in the 3rd period. Brandon Saigeon (30) completed his hat-trick at 13:19 to tie the game 3-3 only to see Kitchener score, what turned out to be the game winner, just 28-seconds later.
The Bulldogs out-shot the Rangers 45-30.
Kitchener goal scorers were Kole Sherwood (21), Logan Stanley (13), Joseph Garreffa (8) and Austin McEneny (5).
1) Logan Brown (KIT)
2) Brandon Saigeon (HAM)
3) Mario Culina (KIT)
The loss drops Hamilton’s season record to 32-12-3-3.
The Bulldogs return home to FirstOntario Centre to face the Mississauga Steelheads Saturday night at 7 pm.
