The Hamilton Bulldogs picked up a hard-fought point Saturday in a 3-2 shoot-out loss to the London Knights at FirstOntario Centre.
The visitors came flying out of the gate and it led to a goal at the 5-minute mark after a Bulldogs giveaway in the neutral zone. Scoring chances were limited after that as London took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room.
Hamilton came out on fire in the 2nd period and at the :19 second mark a 3-way passing play led to a Marian Studenic (3) goal with Jack Hanley and Owen Burnell picking up the assists. The Bulldogs took advantage of a power-play a minute-and-twenty-four seconds later as TJ Fergus (1) scored his first as a Bulldog to make it 2-1. Connor Walters got credit with the only helper. Kaden Fulcher made some key saves to allow his team to hold the lead after forty minutes.
London picked up the pace in the 3rd period and it paid off with a goal at 4:22 to tie the game 2-2. That did it for the scoring in regulation.
There was no scoring in overtime, then all three Bulldogs, Matthew Strome, Connor McMichael and Will Bitten, were stopped in the shoot-out. The Knights Max Jones got the game winner, the only London shooter to beat Kaden Fulcher.
The Knights out-shot the Bulldogs in 65-minutes of regulation and overtime.
London goal scorers were Cliff Pu (3) and Sam Miletic (3).
1) Max Jones (LDN)
2) Marian Studenic (HAM)
3) Cliff Pu (LDN)
With the loss, Hamilton’s season record drops to 6-3-1-3 while London improves to 5-8-1-0.
The Bulldogs wrap-up the weekend in Peterborough Sunday afternoon at 2 pm.
