The Hamilton Bulldogs failed to complete the sweep of Michigan as they lost to the Flint Firebirds 4-3 in overtime Friday night.
A tough start to the 1st period for the Bulldogs as the Firebirds didn’t look like a last place team. Flint had a 3-0 lead with goals at 2:33, 9:04 and 13:07.
Kaden Fulcher replaced starting goalie Nick Donofrion to start the 2nd period and it seemed to spark the Bulldogs as they came out flying, Early pressure resulted in a Marian Studenic (10) goal at 6:11 to cut the Flint lead to 3-1. The Firebirds line (Bitten, Caamano and Moore) made it 3-2 at 10:34 as Will Bitten (7) scored during a goal crease scramble. The Bulldogs tied the game at 3 at 14:40 as Ryan Moore (9) got his first as a Bulldog.
Flint had a chance to get their lead back as Ty Dellandrea was awarded a penalty shot early in the 3rd period but couldn’t beat Kaden Fulcher and the Bulldogs failed to take advantage of several power-play opportunities as the game went to overtime.
The Firebirds won the game at 1:38 of OT as Hunter Holmes made no mistake on a pass from behind the net to make the final score 4-3 ending Flint’s five game losing streak.
Hamilton out-shot Flint 36-21.
Kyle Harris (2, 3) scored twice for Flint while Connor Roberts (4) scored his first as a Firebird.
