The Hamilton Bulldogs finished off a very busy week of Training Camp by opening the 2018-19 pre-season schedule at the OHL Showcase at HarborCenter in Buffalo, NY. During the Labour Day Weekend, the Bulldogs played three games against the Flint Firebirds, Windsor Spitfires and Erie Otters.
Hamilton opened up by facing the Flint Firebirds on Friday August 31st. The Bulldogs got goals from rookies Logan Morrision and Dylan D’Agostino but it wasn’t enough as the Firebirds went on to win 5-2.
Game 2 saw the Bulldogs face the Windsor Spitfires in a very entertaining game on Saturday September 1st. The lead went back and forth and extra time was needed to decide a winner before the Spits came out on top 5-4 in a shoot-out. Hamilton got two goals and an assist from Matthew Strome, a goal and two assists from Arthur Kaliyev, two helpers from Mackenzie Entwistle and a goal from newcomer Liam Stevens. Rookie Zachary Roy was solid in the Bulldogs net stopping 31 of the 35 shots he faced.
In a low scoring affair, the Bulldogs wrapped-up play on Sunday September 2nd against Erie. The Otters won 2-1 with all the scoring happening in the 1st period. Matthew Strome scored his third goal of the weekend and goalie Nick Donofrio, playing his second game of the weekend, stopped 16 of the 18 shots fired his way.
The Bulldogs wrap up the pre-season with a game on Saturday September 15th when they travel to the Sleeman Centre in Guelph to face the Storm at 7pm.
Hamilton opens defense of its OHL Championship on September 21st in North Bay with the unveiling of the Championship banners at the home opener at FirstOntario Centre on Sunday September 30th against the Ottawa 67’s at 2 pm.
