The Hamilton Bulldogs completed the northern sweep Friday night with some late game heroics in a 3-2 win in Sudbury.
The 1st period saw both teams go up and down the ice, but quality scoring chances were few and far between. The Bulldogs got their first power-play opportunity at the midway point and made no mistake as Matthew Strome (17) finished off a 3-way passing play to make it 1-0 Hamilton. The Bulldogs went up 2-0 at 15:20 as Will Bitten (10) was sent in alone and he made no mistake.
Hamilton took over and dominated play in the 2nd period, but Sudbury goalie Mario Culina stopped all 17 shots he faced and it was the Wolves who scored the only goal as Macauley Carson (5) made it 2-1 at 12:35. That goal led to a shower of Teddy Bears onto the ice as the Sudbury fans celebrated the Teddy Bear Toss.
The Wolves poured it on in the 3rd period and the pressure resulted in the tying goal at 15:35 by Shane Bulitka (4). However, signal the Hamilton heroics from Brandon Saigeon (16) who capitalized on a turnover and buried the game winner at 17:50.
The Bulldogs out-shot the Wolves 37-22.
1) Mario Culina (SUD)
2) Brandon Saigeon (HAM)
3) Shane Bulitka (SUD)
With the win, the Bulldogs season record improves to 20-7-3-3.
