BULLDOGS SCORE 7 IN WIN OVER ERIE

They’ve struggled to score goals all season, but you wouldn’t have known it Friday night as the Hamilton Bulldogs offense was the story in a 7-4 win over the Erie Otters at FirstOntario Centre.

The Bulldogs came out firing and it only took 35-seconds to open the scoring as Arthur Kaliyev (5) made it 1-0. Hamilton kept the pressure on and went up 2-0 at 3:14 as Justin Lemcke’s (4) shot from the point found the back of the net. Erie finally got their offense going at 8:52 to cut the Hamilton lead to 2-1, but the Bulldogs responded just 11-seconds later as Matthew Strome (6) took a cross ice pass and made no mistake as the Black and Gold took a 3-1 lead to the dressing room.

Both teams tightened up defensively in the 2nd period and after chances at both ends of the rink, Erie cut the deficit to 3-2 with a goal at 15:03. The Bulldogs got a break late as Marian Studenic (5) let go a quick wrist-shot to make it 4-2 Hamilton after forty minutes.

The Bulldogs put this one away with three quick goals in the third period, including two power-play goals from Brandon Saigeon (8, 9) at 1:57 and 5:11 with the 7th goal scored by Connor Walters (1) at 6:53. Hamilton let up a little and Erie scored twice, but it was too little too late as this game ended 7-4 in Hamilton’s favour.

The Bulldogs had six players with multi-point performances led by defenseman Benjamin Gleason who had three assists and Matthew Strome who had a goal and two assists.

Hamilton out-shot Erie 31-29 as goalie Kaden Fulcher picked up his 7th win of the season.

Erie goal scorers were Kyle Maksimovich (10,11), Carson Edwardson (5) and Christian Girhiny (5).

3-Stars:

1)  Brandon Saigeon (HAM)

2)  Matthew Strome (HAM)

3)  Benjamin Gleason (HAM)

With the win, the Bulldogs season record improves to 9-5-1-3 while the Otters fall to 8-8-2-1.

Hamilton’s next game is Sunday afternoon when they travel to Mississauga to take on the Steelheads at the Hersey Centre at 2 pm.
