BULLDOGS WIDEN LEAD IN THE EASTERN CONFERENCE

Coming off a big win in Kingston Friday night, the Hamilton Bulldogs were looking to avoid a let-down as they took on the last place Sudbury Wolves at FirstOntario Centre on Saturday night.

A good start for the Bulldogs as Matthew Strome (34) banged home a rebound at 8:48 after some great work down low by Mackenzie Entwistle. Hamilton went up 2-0 at 12:45 as Isaac Nurse (15) got a quick shot away as the Black and Gold took a 2-0 lead. The Wolves turned to rookie Blake Murray to get back in the game as he scored twice in a 79-second span late in the 1st period to tie the game 2-2.

The visitors from up north got their first lead of the game early in the 2nd period, but the Bulldogs responded with back to back goals from Brandon Saigeon (33) and Mackenzie Entwistle (9) to take a 4-3 lead into the 3rd period.

Hamilton put on a classic demonstration of how to protect a 1-goal lead allowing Sudbury just three shots on net during the 3rd period. The Bulldogs then got the insurance they needed as Nicholas Caamano (24) scored into the empty-net at 19:56 to make the final score 5-3.

The Bulldogs out-shot the Wolves 31-21.

Sudbury goal scorers were Blake Murray (17, 18) and Shane Bulitka (9).

3 STARS:

1)  Mackenzie Entwistle (HAM)

2)  Blake Murray (SBY)

3)  Matthew Strome (HAM)

The Bulldogs stretch their 1st place lead in the East Division and the Eastern Conference to 7-points with a record of 37-16-3-3.

Hamilton finishes the weekend on home-ice Sunday afternoon as they host the North Bay Battalion at 2 pm.
