OHL Gold Cup Day 2 – Recap

Bulldogs Prospects Continue to Shine on Day 2

Day 2 of the OHL Gold Cup commenced Friday morning at 9:00 AM, with Team OMHA Black taking on Team NOHA, in which would be the only game of the day to not feature at least one Bulldogs prospect. Each Bulldogs prospect suited up for at least one game on Friday, with Ondrovic and McMichael playing in 2 games respectively.

Connor McMichael – OMHA White

McMichael had an eventful opening game on Thursday afternoon, netting a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over Team HNO. McMichael was held off the scoreboard in his 2nd game of the tournament, despite his team defeating Team GTHL Blue on Friday morning. He is coming into the OHL Gold Cup tournament after being selected 11th Overall by the Bulldogs in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.

Xavier Henry – GTHL Red

Henry’s squad pulled off a 5-2 victory over Team Alliance in their second game of the Gold Cup to pull themselves to 2-0 in the Tournament so far. Henry hasn’t hit the score sheet, but he has complied 4 PIMs throughout the two games. He looks to be a promising prospect for the Bulldogs after being selected in the 4th Round of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.

Navrin Mutter – Alliance

Mutter picked up an assist in Team Alliance’s 2nd game of the Tournament, a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Team GTHL Red. Mutter has helped his team go 1-1 through their first 2 games. He was selected 83rd Overall by the Bulldogs in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection after an outstanding year with the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs.

Liam Van Loon – Alliance

Van Loon made an impact in Team Alliance’s first game, in a 6-0 victory over Team NOHA, picking up 1 assist to go along with 2 PIMs. His team now has 1 win and 1 loss in their first 2 games of the Gold Cup Tournament. Van Loon was a 3rd Round draft choice of the Bulldogs after finishing his season with the London Jr. Knights.

Ford Ondrovic – HEO

Ondrovic has complied 2 assists, and 2 PIMs through his opening 2 games at the OHL Gold Cup. Team HEO was defeated 7-4 by Team GTHL Blue in their opening matchup, but regrouped and pulled off a decisive 8-1 victory over Team HNO, with Ondrovic picking up 2 helpers in the game. He was a 9th Round Selection of the Bulldogs last month at the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.

Jordan Stock – Alliance

Stock’s Team Alliance has picked up a win and a loss in this years’ OHL Gold Cup, with the win coming over Team NOHA in a decisive 6-0 victory, and the loss coming at the hands of Team GTHL Red 5-2. Stock has picked up 2 PIMs through 2 games in the Tournament. He was selected 91st Overall in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection after his impressive season with the Hamilton Huskies.

Zach Roy – GTHL Blue

Roy started 2 of the 3 games for his team thus far. He picked up a 5-4 OT win over team HNO to open the tournament, then also got the start as his squad, Team GTHL Blue, fell 4-2 to Team OMHA White on Friday Morning. He has compiled 40 saves through 2 games, to go along with a 3.00 GAA and a 0.851 save percentage. Roy had an impressive season with the Toronto Nationals, which lead to him being selected in the 4th Round by the Bulldogs in the 2017 OHL priority selection.

Day 3 will pick up at 10:00 AM on Saturday morning, with the first game of the day. All 4 matchups on Saturday are who will play in the Tournament Finals, with Thursday and Friday’s games being used to determine the seeding of each participating team. The 2017 OHL Gold Cup Finals will take place on Sunday.
