STATEMENT FROM BULLDOGS PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER STEVE STAIOS ON THE PASSING OF HARRY HOWELL

The Hamilton Bulldogs family is mourning the passing of local hockey legend Harry Howell.

Our thoughts are with Harry’s family, especially his daughter Cheryl, who continues Harry’s commitment to our community and works with our Foundation to better the lives of children in Hamilton. This Foundation is in her father’s memory.

Harry was a hero to me personally growing up, as he too grew up playing hockey in Hamilton. I always respected how he would show his pride for Hamilton where ever he was playing in the National Hockey League. When I became president of the Bulldogs, we were all honoured to have Harry drop the first puck for our new OHL team along with Don Cherry.

At that same time, the Bulldogs Foundation created the Harry Howell Scholarship, presented every year to a graduating male and female high school student who participated in extra-curricular activities and took a leadership role in their school and gave back to their community.

Harry touched the lives of so many – Hamilton has lost a true local hockey legend.
