BULLDOGS NAME 1ST CAPTAIN IN TEAM HISTORY
HAMILTON, ONT.– The Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club announced today that defenceman Justin Lemcke has been named the 1st captain in franchise history. The team also announced three alternate captains; they are forwards Stephen Harper, Niki Petti, and Adam Laishram.
Lemcke, 18, is playing in his third OHL season and has suited up for 117 games. The Whitby, Ont. native has two assists in three games this season and is coming off a summer which saw him take part in the Vancouver Canucks prospects camp as well as the Detroit Red Wings training camp. Lemcke says, “I am honoured and very excited to be named the 1st captain in Bulldogs OHL history.” He adds, “We have a great corps of leaders who are all looking forward to the responsibility of leading this team moving forward.”
General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett says Lemcke has many great qualities, “Justin brings strong character, excellent work habits and a team first approach to the rink each day. He is respected by both teammates and coaches and sets a great example both on and off the ice. Niki, Stephen, and Adam all bring positive attributes to our group that will compliment Justin in his new role. This is an important decision for our organization and this group will carry this responsibility with great pride.”
The clubs alternates also bring extensive experience to the team. Harper, 20, is in his fifth OHL season and leads the team with six points in the first three games. Petti, 19, was the only free agent invited to attend the Carolina Hurricanes training camp this past summer. Laishram, 18, was named the winner of the 2015 OHL Ryobi Hardest Working Player of the Year Award.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at FirstOntario Centre. Face-off is set for 3 p.m. for tickets call 1-866-DOGS-TIX (364-7849) or visit hamiltonbulldogs.com for more information
