Rockford, Illinois – The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Rockford IceHogs 6-4 at BMO Harris Bank Center on Saturday night.  Mike Blunden scored two goals on his birthday and Brendan Gallagher and Michael Bournival also notched two points in a high-scoring affair.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 4:00 of the opening frame on an unassisted goal by Joonas Nattinen. The puck took a hop off the boards behind the net and bounced in front to Nattinen who jammed the puck behind Rockford IceHogs starting goaltender Carter Hutton.

The IceHogs tied the score at 11:58 of the first period on a goal by Ben Smith.  Ryan Stanton threw the puck on net and the rebound came out to Smith who buried the puck past Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Robert Mayer.

The ‘Dogs took a 2-1 lead 31 seconds later at 12:29 of the first stanza on a marker by Blunden.  The puck was thrown to the net by Gallagher and Blunden backhanded the rebound by Hutton.

Rockford tied the score at two just 12 seconds later at 12:41 of the first on a goal by Martin St. Pierre.  Clendening took a shot from the right point and the rebound was put in by St. Pierre past Mayer.

Gallagher gave Hamilton a 3-2 lead 57 seconds later on the power-play at 13:38 of the first frame.  Gallagher took a quick snapshot from the slot which flew by Hutton.

The IceHogs tied it again at 18:01 of the first period on a power-play tally by Marcus Kruger who banked the puck off of a body and into the net behind Mayer.

The Bulldogs grabbed another lead at 1:44 of the second stanza on a goal by Morgan Ellis to make it 4-3.  Ellis leaned into a shot and blasted the puck by Hutton just inside of the near post.  The ‘Dogs took their first two-goal lead of the game at 9:29 of the second period on Blunden’s second goal of the night.  Blunden picked up the puck and made a forehand-to-backhand move and tucked the puck between Hutton and the post.  Hutton was relieved by Alec Richards following the goal.

Rockford cut the lead to one as Martin St. Pierre picked up a loose puck in front of the net and snapped it past Mayer at 12:55 of the second frame.

Gabriel Dumont added an empty netter at 19:47 of the final frame.  The Bulldogs remain undefeated in regulation time against the IceHogs with an all-time record of 7-0-0-1-1.
