BULLDOGS FALL TO MARLIES 5-3 IN OAKVILLE

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO – Toronto Marlies’ forward Spencer Abbott scored with less than two minutes to play to break a 3-3 tie to lift the Marlies to a 5-3 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs Friday night at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville, Ontario. Toronto forward Jerry D’Amigo added an empty netter with 56 seconds to go to seal the Bulldogs defeat.

The Marlies jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead just 3:03 into the first period with goals from D’Amigo and Greg McKegg, but the Bulldogs stormed back with goals by Chad Wiseman and Erik Nystrom later in the period.

Fisticuffs broke out at 7:43 of the first period, with Hamilton’s Kelsey Wilson getting two minutes for instigating, five minutes for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct and Stephen MacAulay and Nathan McIver getting game misconducts. Toronto’s Petter Granberg got five minutes for fighting, while Greg McKegg and Brad Ross got hit with game misconducts.

Forward Wade MacLeod scored the only goal of the second period at 7:04 to give Toronto a 3-2 lead.

With less than 10 minutes to go in the third, Stefan Fournier tied things up, but the ‘Dogs couldn’t hold on, giving up the two aforementioned late goals to fall 5-3.

Forward Akim Aliu and defencemen Dalton Thrower and Joel Chouinard each collected two assists for Hamilton. Forwards Stefan Legein, Sam Carrick and Jerry D’Amigo, defenceman Kevin Marshall and goaltender Garret Sparks collected assists for Toronto.

Mike Condon played the full game for the Bulldogs, making 33 saves on 37 shots. Christopher Gibson started for the Marlies before Garret Sparks took over midway through the second. The two Toronto goaltenders combined for 18 saves on 21 shots.

The Marlies went 0-for-4 on the powerplay. The Bulldogs went 1-for-6 on the powerplay.
