Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the St. John’s IceCaps 6-3 at Copps Coliseum on Friday evening. Gabriel Dumont completed his first-career hat trick and added two assists for a career-high five points.
Dumont scored his second goal of the night on the power play at 12:32 of the first stanza as he jammed the puck from his knees past the left skate of Dekanich. With his third point of the evening, Dumont became the first ‘Dog to have a three-point night on the season. Following the goal, Eddie Pasquale relieved Dekanich.
The IceCaps got on the board at 2:27 of the second frame on a goal by Jason Jaffray. Raymond Sawada carried the puck down the right side and feathered a pass to Jaffray in the slot who wired a shot past Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Robert Mayer. Patrice Cormier scored a shorthanded goal at 5:34 of the second period as Spencer Machacek came in on a breakaway, deked Mayer and shot the puck off his pads with Cormier burying the rebound. St. John’s tied the game at 17:02 of the second stanza as Jaffray took a wrister from the left circle and beat Mayer glove side for his second goal of the contest.
The Bulldogs grabbed a 4-3 lead at 1:39 of the third period on a tally by Morgan Ellis who slapped a shot from the right point. With an assist on the play and his fourth point of the night, Dumont set a new career-high. Dumont then completed the hat trick at 18:30 of the third stanza as he picked up a rebound in the slot and spun around to slide the puck under Pasquale. Brendon Nash added an empty netter at 19:30 of the final frame.
The Bulldogs’ next game is against the Lake Erie Monsters in Cleveland tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. All ‘Dogs games during the month of December will be broadcast on Hamilton's Funny 820 (AM 820), with select games simulcast on Montreal's TSN Radio 690 (AM 690).
