Rochester, New York – The Rochester Americans defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 6-3 on Monday afternoon at Blue Cross Arena. Kevin Porter and Rick Schofield each had a goal and an assist as the Bulldogs tied a franchise record by losing their tenth-straight game on the road.
The Americans opened the scoring just 13 seconds into the opening frame on a goal by Kevin Sundher who walked in up the middle, made a move and slid the puck by Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Robert Mayer. Just 40 seconds later, Porter stepped into the offensive zone and snapped a shot which went in the net on the far side. Frederick Roy gave the Amerks a 3-0 lead 5:45 into the game as he took a shot which was stopped by Mayer and then the puck bounced in behind him.
The Bulldogs got on the board at 8:15 of the first stanza on a goal by Louis Leblanc on the power play. Stefan Chaput took a shot which was stopped by Rochester Americans starting goaltender David Leggio. Leblanc then picked up the rebound and buried it by Leggio. Zack Stortini scored his first goal of the season at 16:52 of the first by putting a rebound past Leggio on his third chance of the play.
Hamilton tied the score just 24 seconds into the second frame on a tally by Joey Tenute who took a slapper from the top of the circle which eluded Leggio.
Rochester took a 4-3 lead at 1:47 of the second stanza as Schofield wired a low slap shot which slid along the ice between the legs of Mayer. Evan Rankin regained a two-goal lead for the Americans at 8:42 of the second period. Adam Pardy played the puck in front of the net and it bounced off the boot of Rankin and into the back of the net.
The Amerks added a power-play marker at 14:15 of the third frame on a goal by Brian Flynn. Mark Mancari sent a pass which was redirected by Flynn over Mayer’s glove into the top corner of the net.
