CLEVELAND, OHIO – In a game that featured eight goals and seven fights, the Hamilton Bulldogs (20-17-0-4) came out on top over the Lake Erie Monsters (17-20-0-3) 6-2 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio for their sixth straight road win.
The first period kicked off the high-offense and feisty affair with five goals and three fights. Bulldogs forward Sven Andrighetto opened the scoring with his ninth goal of the season 5:45 into the game. Forwards Christian Thomas and Maxime Macenauer earned assists on the play.
Monsters forward Paul Carey tied the game 1-1 just over a minute later, with assists from forward Brad Malone and defenceman Karl Stollery.
Thomas put Hamilton ahead again 1:40 later after he buried a wrist shot from the goal crease for his fourth goal of the season, with assists by defenceman Nathan McIver and Andrighetto.
At 12:24 of the first period, Lake Erie defenceman Brett Clark scored a power play goal to tie the game 2-2. Forward Colin Smith and Carey notched assists on the play.
Just 12 seconds later, Hamilton forward Joonas Nattinen scored his sixth goal of the season to put the ‘Dogs ahead 3-2, assisted by forward Stefan Fournier.
Bulldogs defenceman Joel Chouinard put Hamilton ahead 4-2 with his second goal of the season 7:10 into the second period with a huge slap shot from just inside the blue line. Fournier and forward Justin Courtnall had assists.
Thirty-four seconds after that, Hamilton forward Martin St. Pierre scored his eighth goal of the season to make it a 5-2 game. Forwards Patrick Holland and Jordan Owens drew assists on the sequence.
With less than five minutes to go in a third period that featured three more fights, Gabriel Dumont scored on a shorthanded breakaway for his ninth goal of the season, unassisted, to make it 6-2.
Robert Mayer made 28 saves on 30 shots in the Bulldogs net in the win. Calvin Pickard made 30 saves on 36 shots for the Monsters in the loss.
The Bulldogs went 0-for-6 on the power play, while the Monsters went 1-for-6.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Sunday, January 26th, when the ‘Dogs will host the Chicago Wolves (AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues) at 4:00 p.m. at Copps Coliseum.
