Coming off of his Bulldogs’ record setting 51-goal, 102-point, 2018-19 season and his second round (33rd overall) selection by the Los Angeles Kings in June, Arthur Kaliyev was called upon by USA Hockey for the 2019 World Junior Summer Showcase which took place from July 26th to August 3rd in Plymouth, Michigan.
Arthur began his tournament on Team USA White during the two game evaluation portion of the showcase, joining fellow OHLers Bode Wilde, Blade Jenkins & Nick Robertson, along with former Bulldogs’ OHL draft selection Jacob Pivonka.
Team USA White lost their first two games to Finland & Sweden but Kaliyev did make his mark, recording a power play against Sweden in addition to 6 shots on goal across the two games, as Team USA blended their roster together for the remainder of the tournament they would drop their first game 4-1 to Team Canada. Needing an offensive spark, Arthur Kaliyev was inserted for the team’s second game against Sweden.
Kaliyev would be a staple in the lineup for the rest of the tournament, creating a solid partnership with Team USA center John Beecher. Arthur posted a pair of goals against the Swedes while adding an assist to go along with 7 shots on goal in a 6-0 win. He would follow up that performance with another goal and 6 shots against Finland in 6-5 loss before recording 3 shot on goal in the final game of the Summer Showcase in a 5-3 win over Team Canada.
After recording 4 points and 16 shots on goal over the last three games of the World Junior Summer Showcase, Arthur Kaliyev has clearly placed himself firmly on the map for Team USA’s 2020 World Junior Hockey Championship team and looks ready to help lead the Hamilton Bulldogs once again in the 2019-2020 season.
