Special teams were the difference Monday afternoon as the Owen Sound Attack scored three power-play goals and added one short-handed in a 4-3 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs at FirstOntario Centre.
The 1st period got off to a good start for the Black and Gold as Matthew Strome (32) scored at 1:23 to give the 7,327 in attendance for the Family Day matinee something to cheer about.
Things went south in the 2nd period as Hamilton ran into penalty trouble. The Attack power-play went to work scoring three times, with the Bulldogs responding with one short-handed goal from Isaac Nurse (14) as the visitors took a 3-2 lead to the dressing room.
Owen Sound’s fourth goal, a short-handed marker early in the 3rd, turned out be the game winner as Arthur Kaliyev (26) gave the home team some life late, but the comeback came up short.
The Attack out-shot the Bulldogs 36-26.
Owen Sound goal scorers were Jonah Gadjovich (17, 18) and Kevin Hancock (18, 19).
1) Jonah Gadovich (OS)
2) Kevin Hancock (OS)
3) Mackenzie Entwistle (HAM)
With the loss, Hamilton’s season record drops to 35-16-3-3.
The Bulldogs are back in action Friday night as they travel to Kingston to face the Frontenacs before returning to FirstOntario Centre for a weekend double header on Saturday February 24th against Sudbury at 7 pm with North Bay in Sunday February 25th at 2 pm.
