The Hamilton Bulldogs and Peterborough Petes needed some extra time to decide a winner Thursday night at the Memorial Centre and it was the Petes who sent the fans home happy with a 4-3 overtime victory.
The Petes got off to a good start scoring their Teddy Bear Toss goal at 12:17 of the 1st period. The Bulldogs then responded with two quick ones, first Navrin Mutter (4) banged home a rebound, followed up with a power play goal less than a minute later from Nicolas Mattinen (10) to put the Bulldogs up 2-1.
The Petes tied it at 2-2 at 7:04 of the 2nd then the teams exchanged power-play goals. First Nicolas Mattinen (11) scored his second of the night, but with .7 seconds left in the period the Petes converted on the man advantage to tie things up again at 3-3.
There was no scoring in the 3rd period sending the game to 3-on-3 overtime where Peterborough took advantage of a turn-over that sent Nick Robertson in on a breakaway for the game winning goal at 1:42 of the extra period.
Peterborough out-shot Hamilton 36-34.
With two assists on the night, Brandon Saigeon extends his point streak to 6 games.
The Bulldogs were 2 for 4 on the power play while the Petes were 1 for 4.
