The Hamilton Bulldogs kicked off a busy 3 in 3 weekend Thursday night in Peterborough with a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss to the Petes.
Chances were few and far between for most of the 1st period until the Bulldogs got a power-play late. Will Bitten (5) picked up a loose puck and slipped it over the goal line at 15:51 to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Petes came out with some jump to start the 2nd period and it paid off at 2:32 as Logan DeNoble (12) was the recipient of a perfect pass to tie the game 1-1. Hamilton rookie Arthur Kaliyev (9) snapped one home at 9:49 to give the Black and Gold a 2-1 lead, but the Petes kept coming and Jonathan Ang (13) tied the game again at 16:01.
As expected it was a tight-checking 3rd period with each team getting eight shots but no goals scored as the game went to overtime. The Bulldogs carried the play in the extra period, including Isaac Nurse who was stopped twice on breakaways by Petes goalie Dylan Wells. Then on a 3-on 1 Logan DeNoble won the game for Peterborough with his second goal of the night.
The Bulldogs out-shot the Petes during regulation and overtime 37-24.
1) Logan DeNoble (PBO)
2) Dylan Wells (PBO)
3) Brandon Saigeon (HAM)
Despite the overtime loss, Hamilton gets a point and remains in 1st place in the East Division and takes over sole possession of 1st place in the Eastern Conference with a season record of 12-6-2-3.
The Bulldogs are back in action Friday night in Oshawa at 7:35 pm before returning home to host the Ottawa 67’s Saturday at FirstOntario Centre at 7 pm.
