The Hamilton Bulldogs struggles to score goals continued Thursday night in a 4-1 loss at the WFCU Centre in Windsor.
The Bulldogs were on their heels early as goalie Kaden Fulcher had to make several saves in the opening minute to keep the Spitfires off the scoreboard. Hamilton seemed to find their legs, but couldn’t generate much offense. Windsor did get a break late as they capitalized on a rebound at 17:33 to take a 1-0 lead after the 1st period.
The Spitfires came out flying in the 2nd period and got a power-play early and took advantage at 1:31 to take a 2-0 lead. Again, a Bulldogs giveaway in their own zone led to another goal from the home team at 4:12 as Windsor went up 3-0 after two periods.
Chances were few and far between in the 3rd period as the Spitfires seemed content to sit on the lead, but they made it 4-0 at 9:55 after the Bulldogs failed to clear their zone. The only bright spot for Hamilton came late as Jake Murray (1) made a nice play to tip one home and spoil the shut-out bid of Windsor goalie Michael DiPietro. For Murray, it was his first OHL goal.
The Bulldogs out-shot the Spitfires 28-27.
Windsor goal scorers were Aaron Luchuk (14), Sean Day (3), Tyler Angle (2) and Mathew MacDougall (5).
1) Aaron Luchuk (WSR)
2) Michael DiPietro (WSR)
3) Cole Purboo (WSR)
With the loss, Hamilton’s fourth in a row, their season record drops to 6-5-1-3 while Windsor improves to 10-5-1-0.
The Bulldogs are back on home ice for two games this weekend at FirstOntario Centre. Saturday night at 7 pm, they host the Oshawa Generals and then the Windsor Spitfires are in Sunday afternoon at 2 pm.
