The Hamilton Bulldogs completed the 6-game regular season series sweep of the Mississauga Steelheads with a 2-1-win Saturday night at FirstOntario Centre.
The Bulldogs needed a strong 1st period from goalie Nick Donofrio as the Steelheads won the battle on the shot-clock 13-8, but it was Hamilton’s Matthew Strome (29) who pounced on a rebound to make it 1-0 after 1.
The 2nd was a much better period for the Black and Gold as Riley Stillman (3) made it 2-0 with a seeing eye blast from the left point that found its way into the back of the net.
Mississauga came out in the 3rd with some urgency and it paid off with a goal just before the 5-minute mark to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Steelheads lost their cool late in the period resulting in slew of minor penalties and misconducts that put the brakes on any comeback.
Mississauga out-shot Hamilton 31-25.
The Steelheads goal was scored by Michael McLeod (13).
1) Nick Donofrio (HAM)
2) Matthew Strome (HAM)
3) Riley Stillman (HAM)
The win improves Hamilton’s season record to 33-12-3-3.
