It’s a day rookie goalie Zachary Roy won’t forget. In his first OHL start Sunday afternoon in Windsor, Roy made 41 saves leading the Bulldogs to a 5-2 win over the Spitfires.
It was a slow start for the Bulldogs as it took more than ten minutes to get their first shot on goal. By that time, they trailed 1-0. Liam Van Loon (1) got the offense in gear at 13:01 with his first OHL goal as he made a nice rush down the left side, cut in front of the Windsor net and beat Michael DiPietro high to tie the game 1-1.
The Spitfires re-took the lead early in the 2nd, but from then on, it was all Hamilton. Mackenzie Entwistle (2) tied the game 2-2 at 7:07 with Ben Garagan (1) giving the Black and Gold the lead for good at 18:59.
Liam Stevens (3) gave Hamilton some breathing room at 4-2 early in the 3rd and then Matthew Strome (2) found the empty net at 17:52 to round out the scoring.
Another first for a Bulldog as defenseman Frank Jenkins recorded his fist OHL point when he got an assist on Van Loon’s 1st period goal.
